Interactive architecture can be defined as the total integration of the disciplines of interactive design and architecture. Now, technology and robot systems are creating a revolution in our environmental controls and physical building systems, which are given a capacity of memory to integrate databases and information from users (residents). When we are surrounded by smart and networked appliances, they are not conceived from an architectural perspective. Buildings as robots are built from the convergence of embedded computation (intelligence) and a physical counterpart (kinetics) that satisfies adaptation(Stephen Gage, 2010). The combination of these two parts will allow the responsive environment and a interface of building to have the ability to reconfigure itself and automate physical change to respond, react, adapt, and be interactive. Interactive architecture is designed with the purpose of creating spaces and objects that can meet changing needs with respect to evolving personal, social, and environmental demands.

Adaptive response to change must intelligently moderate the human activity and the environment and build upon the task of enhancing everyday activities by creating architecture that extends our capabilities. Such systems might show a new direction and approach to architectural and environmental design where objects are conventionally static, the use is often singular, and responsive adaptability is usually unknown and unexplored. What is essentially being described is a kinetic structure working like a mechanistic machine that is controlled by an integrated non-mechanistic machine: the computer. Constructing a building in this way is like a body with a system of bones, muscles, and tendons and augmenting that body with a brain that knows how to respond. In other words, building intelligence can be given a function that human countenance can be designed into a building facade and people’s spatial experience.
